Art Notes:

This painting was the first I had done in a few years and was my rebirth into what would be a renewed passion. It was created from a reference photo I took back in Summer, 2020. It was my first visit to Algonquin Provincial Park in over 45 years and my husband and I explored the area for 10 days. This scene presented itself along the boardwalk section of Beaver Pond Trail, during our second hike of our visit. It was cloudy and raining softly and the sights on the trail were green and fresh. The reeds were near-end of summer high, the water was still (except for the odd splash), the cloudy sky was reflected in greys and purples on the pond and the fallen raindrops were still poised on the lily pads and flowers - yet to be dried from the soon to return August sun. While creating this piece, I tried to capture the kaleidoscope of greens, dark yellows and purples on the layers upon layers of lily pads, seemingly floating on the still water, as well as showcase the fragility of the lilies themselves - their petals soft and translucent, four of them in different stages of change and growth in balance and harmony of the scene.

Original photos used for reference. Taken August 2021 along Beaver Pond Trail in Algonquin Park.
